RAMALLAH, Monday, May 27, 2019 (WAFA) - Nabil Shaath, advisor to President Mahmoud Abbas for external affairs and international relations and Vice-President of the Socialist International, said that he will hold talks with Luis Ayala, the Secretary General of the Socialist International, to discuss the convening of a meeting in the upcoming period in Ramallah to support the Palestinian leadership in face of the US so-called ‘deal of the century’.
Shaath said in a press statement that he has held intensive consultations with Ayala, who will be visiting Palestine next week, to discuss the convening of the Socialist International conference on Middle East affairs in Ramallah, with the participation of more than 45 countries, to stand by the Palestinians in rejecting the ‘deal of the century and the American-Israeli behaviour, in accordance with the resolutions of the last conference of the Socialist International on supporting the State of Palestine and Fatah movement at all levels.
He referred to initial positions expressed by the parties of the Socialist international during their last meeting in the Dominican Republic last January particularly governments and countries led by these parties; of refusing to recognize US Trump’s administration’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel and its adherence to support the rights of the Palestinian people.
He called on these parties to promote its support to the Palestinian people and turn it into reality through continuing to pressure the Israeli government and compel it to respect international law.
