JERUSALEM, Tuesday, April 02, 2019 (WAFA) – A Palestinian family the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem had earlier demolished its two-story house in Shufat refugee camp was shocked when it received later in the day a bill for the demolition costs displaying an exorbitant amount of money, according to family members.
The Israeli municipality ordered the Houshieh family to pay between $40,000 and $55,000 for costs the municipality claimed were incurred when its staff demolished the family‘s home; an amount the family says was preposterous.
Palestinians insist they are treated unjustly by the right-wing Israeli municipality, which seeks to increase Jewish settlers in the occupied city by building thousands of housing units for them in illegal settlements built on appropriated Palestinian land while reducing the number of the city‘s indigenous Palestinian population by preventing them from building or fining them heavily if they built without a permit.
The Geneva-based Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor (Euro-Med) documented in a new report Israeli violations of the Palestinian population in occupied East Jerusalem whom it said their rights are regularly violated.
