RAMALLAH, Monday, January 28, 2019 (WAFA) – Fatah Central Committee’s recommendation on the formation of a new Palestinian government hit the front page headlines in Palestinian Arabic dailies on Monday.
The dailies reported that Fatah Central Committee recommends the formation of a new government composed of factions of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and independent Palestinian figures, to replace the current consensus government headed by Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah.
They added that Fatah Central Committee called for freezing the implementation of the controversial Social Security Law.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported Deputy Chairman of Fatah Mahmoud al-Aloul stating that the next Prime Minister would be designated following the conclusion of consultations with Palestinian factions.
Additionally, the dailies reported that a large number of mourners attended the funeral of Hamdi Talib Nasan, a father of four, in al-Mughayir village, northeast of Ramallah. Nasan, 38, was killed by Israeli settlers after the latter raided al-Mughayir on late Saturday.
Moreover, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that Israeli occupation authorities decided to demolish parts of a Palestinian-owned house in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabal al-Mukabber.
Highlighting the situation in East Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, the dailies reported that scores of Israeli Jewish settlers forced their way into the holy site.
Director of the mosque compound Sheikh Omar Kiswani was reported in al-Quds holding the Israeli government responsible for the escalation in settlers’ intrusions and targeting of Waqf-appointed guards.
Kiswani pointed out that Israeli police has banned employees from the Islamic Waqf Department entry into the compound and prevented them from carrying out their work duties.
Both dailies also spotlighted the “provocative” tour of Israeli Culture Minister Miri Regev along with the American comedian Roseanne Barr of Jerusalem’s Old City.
Jerusalem Governor Adnan Gheith was reported in al-Quds stating that the tour reflects the Israeli occupation and settler-colonialist mentality and calling on Arab and Muslim countries to take action.
Besides, al-Quds said that Fatah and Hamas welcome the invitation extended by Moscow for dialogue.
It added that Chairman of the Palestinian National Council Salim Zanoun sent identical letters to parliamentary s on Israeli measures targeting the schools run by the United Nations agency responsible for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, in Jerusalem.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that Malaysia is stripped of the right to host 2019 world para-swimming championships after it banned Israeli athletes from participation.
According to al-Ayyam, a Palestinian protester was injured with Israeli gunfire to the east of al-Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.
It said that Israel accuses the European Union of funding NGOs that support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Presidential Advisor for Diplomatic Affairs Majdi al-Khalidi attended the celebration of India’s National Day in Ramallah.
