RAMALLAH, March 19, 2018 (WAFA) – The killing of a Palestinian man following alleged stabbing attack in Jerusalem’s Old City dominated the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies on Monday.
The dailies identified the slain Palestinian as Abdul-Rahman Bani-Fadel, 28, from Aqraba town, south of Nablus. Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported the stabbed Israeli succumbed to his wounds.
According to al-Quds and al-Ayyam, Israeli occupation authorities forced a Palestinian to demolish his home in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan under the pretext of unlicensed construction.
They added that Israeli forces conducted home-to-home raids in Barta‘a village, southwest of Jenin, where they interrogated its Palestinian residents.
Highlighting detention raids, al-Quds said that Israeli forces detained four Palestinian minors from East Jerusalem neighborhood of al-Issawiya and a girl from the Jordan Valley.
According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, Israeli forces detained 20 Palestinians during multiple overnight raids across the West Bank, including a Palestinian man accused of killing two soldiers in an alleged car-ramming attack on Friday.
Spotlighting the situation in the besieged Gaza Strip, al-Ayyam said that Israel pounded an alleged Hamas military installation in Gaza.
It added that Israel has claimed its forced demolished a new tunnel in the besieged coastal enclave.
It also reported a Hamas military wing spokesperson stating that the tunnel was old and the Israeli military was “attempting to market fake achievements” to boost the morale of soldiers and Israelis living near the enclave.
Al-Quds reported “observers” stating that the new Israeli attack on Gaza was designed to thwart the Great March of Return.
It is worth noting in this regard that Palestinian factions have already announced that a march would be organized along Gaza’s border with Israel starting on March 30.
Palestinian refugees are expected to participate in the Great March of Return, which would commence on March 30, Land Day, until the Nakba anniversary on May 15.
Moreover, al-Quds said that a total of 249 Israeli settlers and soldiers forced their way into East Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
The dailies said that the Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) Executive Committee was scheduled to convene today in preparation for the upcoming Palestinian National Council’s session.
Presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh was reported in the dailies stating all conspiracies and dubious attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause would fail before the steadfastness of the Palestinian people.
Furthermore, the dailies spotlighted Secretary-General of PLO Executive Committee Saeb Eerkat’s statements condemning a US memo calling for the termination of US aid to countries that do not vote alongside the US in the UN on resolutions pertaining to Israel and the Middle East.
Erekat was reported describing this act as “hostile” and stating the “behavior of the US Administration reminds us of the behavior of great colonial powers.”
According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) was scheduled to convene today in Geneva to discuss Chapter VII with regards to the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories.
