AMMAN, August 7, 2017 (WAFA) – King Abdullah of Jordan said Sunday that there will be no breakthrough in the peace process if there is no American commitment to supporting a solution to the Palestinian issue, as reported by the Jordanian Petra new agency.

Addressing Jordanian legislators in Amman, Abdullah warned that the future of the Palestinian issue is at stake and reaching a solution is becoming even more difficult, calling for more efforts and intensive work with the US Administration to make the necessary progress in the coming period.

Speaking on the critical situation in Jerusalem and particularly at Al-Aqsa Mosque when Israel attempted to control the Muslim holy site three weeks ago, King Abdullah said that had it not been for the fact that Jordan is the custodian over the holy places in Jerusalem and without the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in occupied Jerusalem, the holy places would have been lost many years ago.

“Without the Hashemite custodianship and the steadfastness of the Jerusalemites, the holy sites would have been lost many years ago,” Petra quoted him as saying. “Our success requires one stand with the Palestinian brothers, so that our cause wouldn‘t be weakened and our rights would be maintained.”

The Jordanian monarch is expected in Ramallah at  noon on Monday for talks with President Mahmoud Abbas. His last visit to Ramallah was in 2012.
