RAMALLAH, March 5, 2017 (WAFA) – The Electoral Committee opening of the local elections registration centers in the occupied West Bank hit the news headlines of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Sunday.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that the Central Electoral Committee opened the registration and objection centers in the West Bank in preparation for the local elections that are set to be held on May 13. The centers will be opened everyday from 8:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. and will closed on Wednesday.
The three dailies also reported the news of the re-opening of Rafah-Egypt crossing border for three days. They said that the Egyptian authorities opened the Rafah crossing border in both directions for Palestinian passengers.
Reporting the clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces, al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that clashes took place in the town of Huwara, south of Nablus, and the village of Silwan in East Jerusalem, where an Israeli policeman was injured. They also said that one Palestinian youth from Hebron was detained for allegedly possessing a knife.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam said that President Mahmoud Abbas met Yacoub Shahin, a Palestinian contestant and winner of the fourth season of the singing competition Arab Idol, on his first visit to Palestine after his winning.
Commenting on Shahin’s victory, Abbas said that despite the Israeli occupation, Palestinian youth is capable of being creative.
Abbas also met “Fatah” regional secretaries in the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Israeli former “Defense” Minister Moshe Ya’alon announced that he is going to form new political party in order to run for the next Israeli elections.
According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, Ya’alon said the threats that Israel is facing are internal, such as corruption and extreme discourse.
Al-Ayyam reported that US President Donald Trump claimed that former president Barack Obama tapped his phone during the presidential campaign. Trump has yet to offer an evidence of such claims.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Jordan on Saturday executed 15 people, including 10 convicted of terrorism.
