Israel Detains 9 Palestinians, Raids Homes of Killed Palestinian Suspects

HEBRON, November 3, 2015 (WAFA) – Israeli forces overnight detained 9 Palestinians, including two children, from across the West Bank districts, as well as raided the family homes of four Palestinians who were killed by Israel after carrying out alleged stabbing attempts against Israeli soldiers or settlers in October, said security sources.

Israeli forces detained five Palestinians from Hebron, two from Jenin and two more from Nablus.

In Hebron, forces raided Yatta town, south of the city, where they proceeded to detain three Palestinians, including two children, after breaking into and ransacking their houses.

The detainees were identified as Sanad Mughannam, 14, his cousin, Hammad, 13, and Muhammad Taha, 19.

Forces also detained two more Palestinians after storming and ransacking their houses in predawn raid into Surif town, north of Hebron.

The detainees were identified as Muhammad Haddush, 21, and Marwan Abu Fara, 20.

During the predawn raid into Surif, forces broke into two houses belonging to the family of Mahmoud Ghneimat, 20, as well as the family of Meqdad al-Hih, 21, where they took photos and measurements for the two houses in preparation for possible demolition.

It is worth recalling in this regard that both Ghneimat and al-Hih were shot dead and critically injured by Israeli forces for allegedly stabbing a settler in Beit Shemesh, an illegal settlement west of Jerusalem, on October 22. Ghneimat succumbed later to his wounds.

Furthermore, forces raided Beit ‘Awwa town, west of Hebron, where they broke into a house belonging to ‘Odai Masalmeh, 24, and took photos and measurements for it as a prelude for possible demolition.

Masalmeh was shot dead by Israeli forces during clashes in Beit Awwa purportedly for attempting to stab an Israeli soldier  on October 20.

Forces also stormed and took measurements and photos for a house belonging to the family of Eyad ‘Awawdeh, 27, in al-Muriq village, west of Hebron as a prelude for prospective demolition.

Al-‘Awawdeh was shot dead by Israeli forces during clashes on the northern entrance of Hebron on October 16 following an alleged stabbing attack.

Israel resorts to punitively demolish the family homes of any Palestinians – as means of deterrence - accused of being involved in attacks against Israelis, a policy that Israel does not use against Israeli settlers who were involved in fatal attacks against Palestinians.

Al-Haq human rights group slammed the punitive home demolition of Palestinians suspected of being involved in attacks against Israelis, as a collective punishment and that in accordance with humanitarian law and human rights law, it is assessed as a war crime and a crime against humanity.

Meanwhile, forces also broke into and ransacked a house belonging to Salama al-Maqusi in al-Fawwar Refugee Camp. However, no arrests were made.

Forces further stormed several Hebron neighborhoods, where they broke into ADWAR, Roles for Social Change Association, blowing up its main door and wreaking havoc inside.

Forces also set up roadblocks at the entrances of Sa‘ir and Halhul as well as the northern entrance of Hebron, where they stopped and examined Palestinian registered vehicles and inspected passengers’ identification cards.

Meanwhile in Jenin city, forces detained two Palestinians after breaking into and tampering with the contents of their houses.

The detainees were identified as Osama Salah, 19, and Baker al-Sabi‘, 18.

Forces also briefly detained another man identified as Farid al-Jamal, 18, for several hours in the vicinity of Dothan military checkpoint.

Meanwhile, forces raided Nablus city, where they broke into several houses and detained two Palestinians identified as Ahmad Shalabi and Ya‘coup Istaitiyya.
