RAMALLAH, January 13, 2014 (WAFA) – Kifah Hattab, 52, a Palestinian prisoner serving two life terms in Israel, preferred to be put in solitary confinement rather than wear the prison uniform, the Ministry of Prisoners said Monday.
The Israel Prison Services punished Hattab, from Tulkarm and
incarcerated since 2003, with solitary confinement, said Karim Ajwa, an
attorney with the Ministry of Prisoners.
He said Hattab was transferred from Hadarim prison to Ashkelon but he refused to enter the jail unless he was allowed to wear normal cloths during family visits or when he meets his attorney, demanding to be treated as prison of war according to the Geneva Conventions.
Hattab rebelled against prison rules in recent years and
went on hunger strike demanding to be treated as prisoner of war. As a result,
he was punished several times, banned family visits and forced to pay fines.
