GENEVA, May 1, 2026 (WAFA) — The World Health Organization on Friday called for the immediate entry of medicines and essential supplies into the besieged Gaza Strip to enable a large-scale restoration of health services.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a post on X that the organization had supported the establishment of a new family health center in northern Gaza, where access to healthcare remains extremely limited and many residents are unable to reach services.
He noted that the center helps deliver healthcare directly to the population, stressing that “health needs across Gaza remain immense.”
Ghebreyesus urged that medicines and essential supplies be allowed into the territory without delay to begin rebuilding the health sector on a wide scale.
He also emphasized the need to remove bureaucratic obstacles affecting essential medicines and to lift restrictions on access to Gaza.
