Gazans mark Eid al-Fitr amidst widespread destruction and Israeli restrictions

GAZA, March 20, 2026 (WAFA) – Hundreds of Gazans performed the Eid al-Fitr prayer in the Hamad City, located to the north of Khan Younis, amidst widespread destruction and ongoing Israeli restrictions, according to WAFA correspondent.

He reported that the worshippers performed the Eid prayer outdoors amid difficult humanitarian conditions and tightened Israeli restrictions.

Taking advantage of the ongoing war with Iran, Israel has quietly tightened its chokehold on Gaza, further restricting the flow of goods and aid into the Strip, leaving residents directly exposed to soaring prices and shortages of essential commodities.

Since the ceasefire agreement went into effect at noon on 10 October 2025, the occupation forces have killed 677 Palestinians and injured 1,813 others. The bodies of 756 Palestinians have been retrieved over the same period.

Israel has waged a military onslaught on the Strip since October 2023, killing at least 72,253 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injuring 171,912 others.

In the course of the genocidal aggression, Israel has destroyed partially or completely over 1,100 mosques out of approximately 1,240 mosques on the war-torn Strip.

Moreover, at least 10,000 people are unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip.

The Israeli aggression has also resulted in the forceful displacement of nearly two million people from all over the Gaza Strip, with the vast majority of the displaced forced into the densely crowded southern city of Rafah near the border with Egypt – in what has become Palestine’s largest mass exodus since the 1948 Nakba.
