Denmark has disbursed funding to UNRWA

February 3, 2026 (WAFA) – RAMALLAH, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen has announced that Denmark has decided to disburse all planned funding to UNRWA early this year. The amount is over €14million.

“UNRWA is an indispensable lifeline for Palestinians in Gaza & the region,” the Foreign Minister wrote on X. “Continued support is essential especially with UNRWA under intense pressure. Urge more to follow.”

In 2023 Denmark and UNRWA, the United Nations Palestine Refugee Agency signed a Multi-Year Agreement (MYA) for the 2023-2027 period, with a contribution of DKK 105 million (US$ 15.2 million) each year, for a total of DKK 525 million (US$ 75.2 million).

According to the agreement, the Danish contribution will support core services for Palestine Refugees in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) and the Gaza Strip. The Palestine Refugee Agency services include primary health care, quality, inclusive education, social protection services, infrastructure and camp improvement and protection.

In this context, Ahmed Abu Holi, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and head of its Refugee Affairs Department, welcomed the Danish Foreign Minister's announcement. He emphasized that Denmark's approach of providing early and flexible funding to support UNRWA's budget is a safeguard for the stability of its programs and a model of responsible support needed at this critical time to ensure the continuity of its humanitarian operations. He noted that Denmark is a major supporter of UNRWA and a strategic partner in protecting its mandate and UN authorization.

Abu Holi urged all donor countries to increase their funding and follow Denmark's example by providing early and flexible funding. This would enable UNRWA to bridge the severe funding gap in its budget for the first quarter of this year and to disburse funds according to needs and priorities.
