NEW YORK, December 19, 2025 (WAFA) — Amnesty International said today that the deaths caused by recent floods in the Gaza Strip could have been completely prevented and should not be attributed solely to bad weather.
In a press statement, the organization noted that the destruction caused by heavy rains was worsened by ongoing Israeli restrictions on the entry of vital supplies needed to repair essential infrastructure. It stressed that the warnings had been clear and that what occurred was not a natural accident but a fully preventable tragedy.
Amnesty added that the responsibility cannot be placed on bad weather alone for the scenes of waterlogged tents and collapsed buildings in Gaza, explaining that what is happening is a predictable consequence of the genocide being carried out by Israel and its deliberate siege policy that blocks the entry of shelter and repair materials for the displaced.
The organization called on Israel to immediately lift its harsh siege on Gaza and allow unrestricted entry of essential goods, repair materials, and humanitarian supplies.
