ROME, December 16, 2025 (WAFA) – Italy and Germany signed a joint declaration on strengthening and revitalizing their commitment to providing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, stressing the urgent need for aid to reach Palestinians in the Strip before the onset of winter.
This came after a meeting between Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and his German counterpart, Johannes Wadephul, in Rome.
The joint statement emphasized the necessity of ensuring aid reaches Palestinians in Gaza before the onset of winter.
The statement reiterated Rome and Berlin's support for the peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump and endorsed by the UN Security Council, which stipulates the resumption of unimpeded humanitarian aid.
It indicated that the two sides aim to establish a joint platform to coordinate the efforts of the private sector and civil society, and to underscore the pivotal role of the United Nations and non-governmental organizations in an effective humanitarian response.
The United Nations announced on Monday that Israel continues to obstruct the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip despite the harsh winter conditions, and warned of the increased risk of newborns freezing due to the cold.
