UN inquiry says Israel committed war crimes and genocide in Gaza

RAMALLAH, October 29, 2025 (WAFA) – The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry confirmed that Israeli occupation forces committed war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.

Commission member Chris Sidoti said the investigations lasted two years and were based on the collection of more than 16,000 pieces of documented evidence, including verified photos and videos, corroborated by eyewitness testimonies according to strict UN protocols. He added that the commission used victim and witness testimonies, satellite imagery, and digital forensics to accurately document the violations.

Sidoti explained that the commission's mission goes beyond simply documenting the crimes; it also includes determining responsibility. The commission was able to identify specific Israeli military units that committed serious violations and, in some cases, identified commanders and officials in the occupation government and army who issued direct orders to commit these crimes.

He noted that the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants on November 21, 2024, for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against Palestinians in Gaza.

Sidoti emphasized that the Commission's reports are submitted to the Human Rights Council and the UN General Assembly and are made public, denying the existence of any confidential reports not available to the public. He added that criticism of the Commission's work is limited to the Israeli government and the United States, while its reports enjoy broad international acceptance.

These documents represent a significant step in the international legal process, providing a strong basis for legal proceedings and accountability for the violations witnessed in the Gaza Strip during two years of continuous aggression, highlighting the scale of human suffering and the catastrophic impact of the occupation on the Strip's residents.
