President Abbas meets UK Liberal Democrat leader in London

GAZA, September 9, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas met on Tuesday at his residence in London, with the leader of the British Liberal Democrat Party, Sir Edward Davey.

During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and bilateral relations between the State of Palestine and the United Kingdom.

The President expressed his gratitude for their efforts and his appreciation for Britain's positions, particularly its efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire, ensure the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, reject settlement activity and settler violence, and work diligently to achieve the two-state solution.

The President praised the United Kingdom's historic decision to recognize the State of Palestine ahead of the international peace conference in New York later this month, describing it as a corrective step to a historical injustice and a new horizon for achieving peace.

The President emphasized the current Palestinian priorities: an immediate and permanent ceasefire, ensuring full access for humanitarian aid to Gaza, the release of hostages and prisoners, the withdrawal of occupation forces, and the beginning of the early recovery and reconstruction process.

The President reiterated that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the State of Palestine, and that the state will assume its full responsibilities there with Arab and international support.
