President Abbas arrives in UK on an official state visit

LONDON, September 7, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas arrived this evening, Sunday, in the United Kingdom on an official three-day state visit at the invitation of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

President Abbas is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Starmer to discuss ways to support ongoing efforts to achieve an immediate and permanent ceasefire, end the aggression, destruction, and starvation being inflicted upon the Palestinian people, ensure the release of hostages and detainees, facilitate the immediate entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, and secure the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces.

The talks will also address enabling the State of Palestine to assume full responsibility, the implementation of a recovery and reconstruction plan, and halting all unilateral actions, including colonial settlement expansion, colonists’ terrorism, and annexation.

Bilateral relations and ways to develop them across all fields, along with several issues of mutual interest, will also be discussed by President Abbas and Prime Minister Starmer

Additionally, the two leaders will discuss coordinating efforts for the upcoming international conference on the two-state solution, scheduled for later this month, as well as the anticipated British recognition of the State of Palestine.

During the visit, President Abbas is expected to meet with Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper and several other senior British officials.

Accompanying the President are: Ziad Abu Amr, Head of the PLO’s Department of International Relations, Majdi Al-Khaldi, Diplomatic Adviser to the President, Husam Zomlot, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the United Kingdom.
