President Abbas reiterates commitment to Lebanon’s unity and territorial contiguity

RAMALLAH, August 29, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday reiterated his commitment to the unity and territorial contiguity of Lebanon.

President Abbas discussed in a phone call with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam the latest developments in the region and the Palestinian cause, particularly given the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, the genocidal war on Gaza, the killing of tens of thousands of civilians and Israel’s deliberate strategy of starvation that has pushed the Strip towards famine.

They also addressed Israeli colonial expansion in the occupied West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, and the persistent settler attacks against Palestinians and their property.

Prime Minister Salam commended President Abbas for his positions, which contribute not only to strengthening bilateral relations but also to safeguarding Lebanon’s security, stability, and sovereignty, with special focus on handing over the Palestine Liberation Organization’s weapons in Palestinian refugee camps to the Lebanese army.

President Abbas reaffirmed that Palestinian refugees in Lebanon are temporary guests until their return to their homeland, Palestine.

He expressed appreciation for Lebanon’s supportive stance toward the Palestinian cause and the two-state solution, which guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people, ends their suffering, and achieves the desired stability in the region.

He expressed pride in the historic fraternal relations between Palestine and Lebanon, noting that he looked forward to enhancing them in the best interests of both peoples and countries.

President Abbas underlined the importance of the presidential statement jointly issued with his Lebanese counterpart, Joseph Aoun, backing the principles of placing all arms under the exclusive control of the Lebanese State, respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, as well as improving the humanitarian and living conditions of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and the provision of humanitarian, social, and economic rights for them, in a manner that guarantees them a dignified life without undermining their right of return or their national identity.
