RAMALLAH, August 28, 2025 (WAFA) – Presidential spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh said today that the relevant Palestinian authorities in Lebanon have handed over the second batch of weapons from Palestinian refugee camps, specifically from Rashidieh, Al-Bass, and Burj al-Shamali, to be placed in the custody of the Lebanese Army. The handover process for the remaining camps will be completed gradually.
In a statement, Abu Rudeineh affirmed that this step was taken in line with the joint presidential statement issued by President Mahmoud Abbas and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on May 21.
He explained that both sides agreed to establish a joint Lebanese-Palestinian committee to monitor the situation in the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon and to work toward improving the refugees' living and humanitarian conditions, while fully respecting Lebanese sovereignty and complying with Lebanese laws.
ــAbu Rudeineh noted that both parties reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the humanitarian, social, and economic rights of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, in a manner that ensures them a dignified life without compromising their right of return or undermining their national identity.
He stressed that both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the principle that all weapons must remain exclusively in the hands of the Lebanese state throughout its territory, and to eliminating any practices that violate this principle. He also emphasized the importance of upholding Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
