Vice President Al Sheikh briefs Fatah’s Revolutionary Council on diplomatic efforts to halt Gaza genocide

GAZA, August 12, 2025 (WAFA) – Vice President of the State of Palestine and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein al-Sheikh, briefed members of the Fatah’s Revolutionary Council on Tuesday on the political and diplomatic efforts being pursued at both the international and regional levels to end the ongoing genocide in Gaza and counter Israel’s policy of starvation against the Palestinian people.

During the meeting,  al-Sheikh addressed the intensive efforts underway to ensire the unhindered delivery of food and medical aid, without pretext or threats to civilians lives.

Al-Sheikh updated the Council on the coordination with the Arab Republic of Egypt, Qatar, and the international community to halt the occupation's plan to displace the Palestinian  people from Gaza and to stop the bloodshed.

He also expressed the Palestinian leadership and people's appreciation for countries that have announced their intention to recognize the state of Palestine next month, as well as the appreciation of the vital role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in rejecting any political process or relations with the occupying state before the implementation of the two-state solution on the ground.

The meeting also discussed the ongoing preparations for the Palestinian National Council elections, calling for the expansion of the preparatory committee to include a broader segment of civil society.

The Council affirmed the pivotal role of the Fatah movement in leading the national project and the necessity of leading the internal reform process, based on national requirements, and strengthening national unity through a comprehensive national dialogue to safeguard the Palestinians, the cause, and the occupied territory of the State of Palestine.

The Council called for the urgent convening of the Eighth General Conference to adopt a political and national program rooted in the Palestinian people, their right to self-determination, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
