Vice President meets with French counselor, discuss latest development

RAMALLAH, July 16, 2025 (WAFA) – Vice President of the State of Palestine, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein al-Sheikh, discussed with French Consul General Nicolas Kassianides, accompanied by Political Advisor Pierre Arnaud Blanchard, the latest developments in the joint Saudi-French initiative to hold an international conference leading to the recognition of the State of Palestine.

During the meeting, al-Sheikh stressed the importance of this initiative in light of the continued Israeli intransigence and escalating violations. He emphasized that Palestinian people aspire to serious international action that guarantees their legitimate rights, foremost among which is the establishment of an independent state on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He praised the advanced French role and the growing partnership between Paris and Riyadh in supporting the Palestinian cause on the international stage, calling for translating this initiative into concrete steps to end the occupation and achieve a just and lasting peace.

The French Consul General expressed the position of President Emmanuel Macron, regarding France's intention to recognize the State of Palestine next September.
