BERLIN, May 25, 2025 (WAFA) – The Social Democratic Party of Germany has voted in favor of recognizing the State of Palestine based on the 1967 borders, including East Jerusalem as its capital.
The decision came at the conclusion of the party's general conference, where members also called for a suspension of arms exports to Israel that are being used in Palestine, and for a review of the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
The SPD strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza, including aerial bombardments and the blockade, and expressed full solidarity with the Palestinian people—particularly those in Gaza. The party also voiced support for post-war reconstruction efforts in the Strip.
Furthermore, the SPD urged support for investigations led by the International Criminal Court (ICC) and emphasized the importance of respecting any resulting decisions. It underscored Germany’s special responsibility in supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The resolution stressed the need for Germany to take a more active role in ending the illegal Israeli occupation and called for renewed recognition of the Nakba of 1948 as a foundational context in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
