President Abbas and Macron discuss ceasefire and rejection of Palestinian displacement

RAMALLAH, April 14, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas discussed on Monday the latest developments in the Palestinian territories during a telephone call with French President Emmanuel Macron. The President emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire and the swift delivery of humanitarian aid. He also firmly rejected the displacement of the Palestinian people from their land.

The two leaders also addressed the Palestinian Authority’s assumption of full responsibility in the Gaza Strip, including security duties, within the framework of Palestinian factions’ commitment to the political program of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and its international obligations, based on international legitimacy, one system, one law, and one legitimate source of arms.

The call also underscored the importance of implementing the Arab plan for early recovery and reconstruction, ensuring that such efforts take place with Palestinians remaining steadfast on their land.

Both leaders reiterated the necessity of advancing a two-state solution based on international legitimacy and preparing for the upcoming international peace conference scheduled for June.

President Abbas also briefed President Macron on the comprehensive Palestinian reform agenda.

The President expressed his gratitude to France for its principled stance against forced displacement, its call for an immediate ceasefire, and its unwavering support for the Palestinian people's right to remain rooted in their homeland, as well as for the achievement of peace based on the two-state solution.

The President also thanked France for co-organizing the upcoming peace conference alongside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and emphasized the importance of recognizing the State of Palestine and supporting its quest for full membership in the United Nations.

President Abbas also expressed appreciation for France’s ongoing humanitarian assistance, its support for Palestinian national institutions, and its continued backing of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

President Abbas reiterated his full rejection of any proposals or schemes aimed at displacing the Palestinian people—whether in Gaza, the West Bank, or the capital East Jerusalem—stating that such actions constitute violations of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy. The President affirmed the Palestinian people's unwavering right to remain on their land, stating that we will not leave, nor will we be displaced.

The President underscored the necessity of halting colonial expansion, annexation plans and attacks on holy sites, which undermine the two-state solution and jeopardize the prospects for peace, security and stability in the region.

Finally, President Abbas informed President Macron of the ongoing preparations for the upcoming session of the Palestinian Central Council.
