World Health Organization intensifies response in Gaza after ceasefire

GENEVA, January 25, 2025 – The World Health Organization (WHO) has increased its health response in Gaza following the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced that this week, 70,000 liters of fuel were delivered to the region, allowing 20 partially operating health facilities and hospitals to remain functional, alongside emergency medical vehicles.

WHO also provided essential medical supplies from its stockpiles in Gaza to six hospitals, medical points, and 21 medical teams across the northern and southern parts of the territory, said the WHO chief.

He added that these supplies are expected to help treat 50,000 patients, providing maternal care, trauma treatment, nutrition support, care for non-communicable diseases, and improving infection prevention measures in healthcare settings.

Despite these efforts, Ghebreyesus noted that conditions in Gaza remain challenging, with humanitarian operations continuing to face complications.
