GEORGETOWN, January 14, 2025 (WAFA) – Guyanese President Irfaan Ali Tuesday affirmed his country’s unwavering position in support of the Palestinian people’s inalienable rights.
President Ali made his remarks during a formal reception of Presidential Advisor for International Relations, Riyad Malki, in the capital of Guyana, Georgetown, as Malki is on a visit to the South American country to boost bilateral relations, expand cooperation, and upgrade Palestinian-Guyanese relations to the level of a strategic partnership.
During their meeting, Malki conveyed a message of profound appreciation from President Mahmoud Abbas to his Guyanese counterpart, thanking the latter for his country’s positions in support of the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights in various regional and international forums and interest in further developing the historic bilateral relations.
Presidential advisor Malki discussed with President Ali the mechanisms for implementing and further developing cooperation programs in areas of mutual concern, including putting in place development programs that serve bilateral interests. They also touched upon the initiatives designed to second specialized Palestinian experts to support Georgetown’s national development efforts.
Both officials asserted their aspiration to commence the implementation of the framework of strategic partnership and stressed the need to step up Palestinian-Guyanese cooperation in international forums in support of just causes and solidarity, particularly since Guyana currently serves as the permanent secretary of the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM).
They concluded their meeting by affirming the need to translate the Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) signed between Palestine and Guyana into concrete programs and activities that would encompass the health, agriculture, housing, mining, and employment sectors.
