REYKJAVIK, January 6, 2025 (WAFA) - Icelandic Minister for Foreign Affairs, Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, confirmed Iceland´s early disbursement of funds to the UN relief agency, UNRWA, in light of the extreme humanitarian needs.

This announcement was made in a post by the minister on her X platform account today, following a phone call with UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini.

Iceland greatly values the work the UN Lazzarini and his staff are doing under very challenging circumstances, she said.

Additionally, the minister discussed the critical need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and improving access to humanitarian assistance during a telephone call with the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Gaza, Sigrid Kaag.
