RAMALLAH, December 31, 2024 (WAFA) - The Palestinian Presidency commended a statement issued by prominent figures from the Gaza Strip, in which they affirmed that Gaza is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian Territory and called for the return of the Strip under the responsibility of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO); the legitimate and sole representative of the Palestinian people.
The presidency praised the statement, which further emphasized the need for actions to support the resilience of Palestinians on their land.
The Presidency commended this significant stance from a group of distinguished public figures in Gaza, which it stressed reflects the widespread popular position in the Strip.
The statement called on President Mahmoud Abbas to assume full responsibility in the Gaza Strip and urged the State of Palestine to take the necessary measures to implement this, recognizing Gaza as occupied Palestinian land subject to international law and UN resolutions.
The Palestinian Presidency emphasized that the State of Palestine is fully prepared to assume complete responsibility for addressing the suffering of the Palestinian people caused by the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza.
The Presidency affirmed its relentless efforts with international allies, particularly the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt, to halt the ongoing genocide and support the resilience of the Palestinian people by expediting the delivery of humanitarian aid across Gaza.
The Presidency reiterated that this courageous statement reaffirms support for the unwavering positions of the State of Palestine highlighting the need to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2735, which calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the full assumption of responsibility by the State of Palestine in Gaza, as is the case in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Prominent figures in the Gaza Strip affirmed in a statement on Tuesday that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) is the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, and that the Palestinian Authority serves as the executive body, representing the legal and legitimate authority to govern both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
The figures emphasized that the Palestinian Authority is the sole entity authorized to manage the Gaza Strip under these challenging conditions and to implement the necessary political and administrative measures to revive the Strip and strengthen the resilience of its people.
The figures noted that this statement comes in light of the failure of all ceasefire attempts due to the occupation government’s stance, as well as its efforts to create a new reality in Gaza by establishing a long-term direct military occupation, seeking to evade its civil and humanitarian obligations and turning the Palestinian division into a permanent one.
"We consider the Gaza Strip an integral part of Palestinian geography and demand its return under the authority of the Palestinian National Authority so that it remains part of the Palestinian national project."
In the face of these challenges, the figures called on President Mahmoud Abbas, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and President of the Palestinian National Authority, to take immediate action, announce the PA’s full assumption of responsibility in the Gaza Strip and take the necessary actions to implement this without delay.
