MSF: The risk of famine and death threatens everyone in southwest Sudan

RAMALLAH, December, 25, 2024 (WAFA) – Doctors Without Borders said that the risk of famine and death threatens everyone in South Darfur State, southwest Sudan, due to malnutrition diseases.

The organization stated in a statement today, Wednesday, via X platform, that children, pregnant women and lactating women are the most vulnerable to malnutrition, adding, "Only a very small number of people survive the risk of famine and death posed by malnutrition in South Darfur."

It indicated that it provided food supplies for two months to 6,000 malnourished patients and their families, or about 30,000 people.

It continue, "The lack of adequate response from international organizations, including United Nations agencies, has left people without enough food to eat, or adequate medical services to prevent avoidable deaths, as the horrific effects of war continue."

The organization stated in its statement that last October, 23% of children under the age of five who were examined in facilities supported by Doctors Without Borders, in the city of Nyala, the capital of the state, were suffering from severe malnutrition.

It  focused on providing food to people most at risk of malnutrition who are registered in her malnutrition programmes, or who suffer from other health conditions.
