RAMALLAH, December 23, 2024 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas discussed during a telephone call on Monday with the Irish Prime Minister, Simon Harris, the latest developments in the Palestinian Territory.

During the call, President Abbas reiterated the urgent need for the immediate implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2735 to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.

He emphasized the need to deliver emergency aid to the besieged enclave, enable the Palestinian government to assume full responsibility there, ensure Israel’s complete withdrawal from the Strip and halt hostilities in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

President Abbas also called for an end to Israel’s racist colonial expansion and the annexation of Palestinian land.

President Abbas expressed his profound gratitude to Ireland and its people for their steadfast and courageous support for achieving peace and stability based on the two-state solution, in accordance with international law and UN resolutions.

The President also commended Ireland's substantial support for the Palestinian people, both directly and through the European Union, which has been reflected in its recognition of the State of Palestine, backing for the Palestinian government, contributions to UNRWA, and the reception of injured children from Gaza.

For his part, the Irish Prime Minister extended his condolences and deep sorrow over the large number of Palestinian casualties, calling for an immediate ceasefire and the upholding of international law and UN resolutions.

Harris reaffirmed Ireland's commitment to strengthening its friendly relations with the State of Palestine and its people, and to further developing these ties in a way that promotes peace and stability in the region.

He affirmed Ireland’s continued support for the Palestinian people, including aid for building state institutions and securing their full rights under international law.
