President Abbas discusses developments with Lebanese Prime Minister in Rome

VATICAN CITY, December 13, 2024 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas met with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Thursday evening at his residence during his visit to Rome, where the two leaders discussed the latest developments in Palestine and Lebanon.

The two leaders underscored the need to gather all efforts to ensure the success of the ceasefire in Lebanon, aiming to stabilize the situation and restore peace and security in the country.

The conversation also focused on achieving a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, facilitating humanitarian aid, and ensuring Israel’s full withdrawal from the region. 

They stressed the importance of the State of Palestine taking on its responsibilities in Gaza in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2735.

Additionally, they emphasized the implementation of the International Court of Justice’s ruling on ending occupation and the necessity of convening an international peace conference in mid-2025.

Both leaders affirmed the critical importance of Palestine securing full membership in the United Nations and expanding its international recognition as an independent state.
