President Mahmoud Abbas meets with Saudi Crown Prince  on sidelines of Joint Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh

 

RAMALLAH, November 11, 2024 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas met on Monday with Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on the sidelines of the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The president expressed his sincere gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Crown Prince bin Salman for hosting the summit in Saudi Arabia in support of Palestine and Lebanon.

President Abbas greatly valued the remarks delivered by the Crown Prince at the summit's opening and the outcomes achieved by the leaders in the final communiqué.

The President emphasized the crucial role of the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee, chaired by Saudi Arabia, in advancing recognition for the State of Palestine and securing its full membership in the United Nations.

President Abbas also highlighted the importance of the political initiatives undertaken by the Committee to support Palestine's diplomatic and legal efforts at the UN to end the occupation of all Palestinian territories, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and to implement the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The President reiterated support for the international coalition, which recently launched its efforts in Riyadh, focused on establishing the State of Palestine, securing its full membership in the United Nations and implementing the Arab Peace Initiative.

The President also reviewed during the meeting the latest developments in the Palestinian arena and discussed ways to end the Israeli occupation of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

President Abbas emphasized the need to preserve the historical and legal status of Islamic and Christian holy sites, particularly safeguarding the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, as well as maintaining the presence and role of UNRWA and continuing support for its mission.

The President also highlighted the importance of joint coordination to address current and future challenges, stressing the urgent need to halt the aggression against the Palestinian people, withdraw Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip and expedite the delivery of humanitarian aid to mitigate the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding there.
