KAZAN, October 24, 2024 (WAFA) – President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas called for the implementation of the UN Security Council resolution to immediately stop the Israeli aggression against Palestinian people, allow humanitarian aid to enter, completely withdraw from the Gaza Strip, and for the State of Palestine to assume its full duties to return the displaced to their areas and rebuild.

The President said in his speech before the BRICS summit held in the Russian city of Kazan on Thursday that achieving justice for the Palestinian people is the most important test in this historical stage, and the time has come to stop injustice and end the practices of relying on military force and prolonging the occupation.

President Abbas called on world states to implement the UN General Assembly resolution regarding the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, and oblige the occupation authorities to end their illegal presence on the land of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, within one year.

The President called for imposing sanctions on Israel in the event that it does not commit to implementing the General Assembly resolution, and the need to work with the United Nations and the concerned parties to hold an international peace conference.

President Abbas stressed that there is an urgent need for a more balanced and just global system, especially in light of the failure of the institutions of the current international system to find effective solutions to the increasing crises and chronic issues that the world suffers from, most notably the Palestinian issue.

"In this context, we rely heavily on the BRICS countries, which have become an influential and decisive weight in establishing the foundations of international peace and security," President Abbas said.

President Abbas called on the international community to reject and condemn the Israeli government's decision to close the headquarters of UNRWA in East Jerusalem and disrupt its work in caring for Palestinian refugees in the occupied State of Palestine, and to force it to back down from this decision.

The President renewed the State of Palestine's desire to join the BRICS group, and to enhance partnership, dialogue and engagement in activities with its members, stressing the State of Palestine's full readiness to commit to the purposes, practices and activities of this group, in order to achieve its goals.

President Abbas thanked the Russian President for his invitation to participate in the work of this important group, which is being held to strengthen relations between the BRICS countries and the Global South, which will provide an opportunity to expand and strengthen dialogue and partnership in the fields of development, innovation, energy, culture, international security and peace, and to give a constructive impetus to resolving current regional and international issues, most notably the Palestinian issue.
