BERLIN, Tuesday, May 7, 2024 (WAFA) – Dozens of students at the Free University of Berlin set up a protest encampment today on campus in solidarity with Palestine, following the footsteps of hundreds of American and international universities. The encampment, however, was forcibly evicted by police.
According to Anadolu Agency, around 150 students participated in the protest on the university campus, chanting slogans in support of Palestinians and condemning the Israeli occupation, as well as Germany's support of the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
On April 18th, hundreds of students at the Columbia University in New York started a Palestine solidarity encampment inside campus, demanding the administration to cease academic cooperation with Israeli universities and divest from companies supporting the occupation of Palestine.
As police forces intervened and arrested dozens of students, anger spread, leading to protests at dozens of universities across the United States, including prestigious institutions like Harvard, George Washington, New York, Yale, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and North Carolina.
Subsequently, the unprecedented student movement expanded to universities in countries such as France, Britain, Germany, Canada, and India, all witnessing supportive rallies for their American counterparts and calls to halt the aggression on Gaza and boycott companies supplying Israel with weapons.
