Netanyahu’s Cabinet orders closure of Al Jazeera offices in Israel

TEL AVIV, Sunday, May 5, 2024 (WAFA) – The Israeli occupation's government decided today to close the offices of the Doha-based Al Jazeera Media Network in the 1948-occupied territory.

Israeli media sources reported that the decision to close both the Arabic and English broadcasts of Al Jazeera within Israel was unanimously approved by the Israeli government's cabinet, with immediate effect.

According to the decision, press credentials of journalists working for Al Jazeera will be revoked, and broadcasting equipment, logistics, and technical tools, except personal devices, will be confiscated. Additionally, access to Al Jazeera's website from within the 1948-occupied territory will be restricted.

The Israeli cabinet's vote came after the Israeli Knesset passed a bill allowing the temporary closure of foreign broadcasting stations "that pose a threat to national security" during times of war.
