RAMALLAH, Saturday, December 23, 2023 (WAFA) – Numerous cities and capitals around the world witnessed massive protests, rallies and marches today as part of a global movement of solidarity with the Palestinian people in the aftermath of the ongoing Israeli genocide campaign against the Gaza Strip.
Thousands participated in demonstrations organized in the UK capital, London, the French capital, Paris, the German capital, Berlin, the Italian city of Milan, the city of Utrecht in the Netherlands, Manchester in the United Kingdom, and Luxembourg, expressing support for the Palestinian people. The protesters called for an immediate ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
Participants in the protests waved Palestinian flags and carried banners denouncing the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people.
Protesters called for an end to double standards and demanded that Israeli war criminals be held to account for their massacres against the Palestinian people, particularly children.
Hundreds march in London calling for an immediate ceasefire
Hundreds of people marched along Oxford Street in London calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and a boycott of Israel-linked brands, as traffic in the busy shopping district was brought to a halt days before Christmas.
“There can be no Christmas as usual while a genocide is happening,” the organizers and activist group Sisters Uncut wrote on social media on Saturday, calling for the boycott of brands including Puma, HP and Axa.
“When we disrupt the flow of capital we strike at the heart of the brutal occupation. We will continue to shut it down in solidarity with the Palestinian people,” the group said, sharing videos of protesters armed with Palestinian flags and placards beneath Carnaby’s glittering decorations while chanting “shut it down” outside Puma.
Protesters outside two Zara stores chanted “while you’re shopping, bombs are dropping” and “Zara, Zara, you can’t hide, stop supporting genocide” referring to Israel’s retaliatory campaign, which has killed more than 20,000 people in Gaza, according to the health ministry, most of them women and children.
Melbourne witnesses a convoy of cars and bikes calling for ceasefire
A convoy of cars and bikes have travelled through Melbourne, Australia, calling for a permanent ceasefire to the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza.
Protests have been held weekly across all major Australian cities over the past three months, demanding an end to Israel’s invasion in the wake of the October 7 terror attack by Hamas.
Chants of “free Palestine” were heard alongside beeping horns and music as the convoy progressed.
At least 20,200 Palestinians have been killed, predominantly children and women, and over 54,000 others injured by indiscriminate Israeli airstrikes, artillery shelling and gunfire since the beginning of the campaign on October 7. Nearly 7,000 others are unaccounted for beneath the rubble, and are most likely thought dead.
