RAMALLAH, Sunday, August 6, 2023 (WAFA) – Hundreds of Palestinians held without charges or trial in Israeli jails returned today their breakfast meals in protest of their unfair detention under Israel’s so-called administrative detention policy, said the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

PPS said in a press statement that the return of meals is being implemented today as part of the struggle program approved by the Administrative Detainees Committee in coordination with the Higher Emergency Committee for the Palestinian Prisoner Movement.

He said more steps will be gradually taken in light of the Israeli occupation authorities' increased use of administrative detention, as the number of administrative detainees held without charges of trial by the Israeli occupation has exceeded more than 1,200 for the first time in 20 years.

Israel’s widely condemned policy of administrative detention allows the Israeli military to hold Palestinians in prisons indefinitely based on secret information without charging them or allowing them to stand trial.

The period of administrative detention orders ranges between four to six months without trial, and is based on a "secret file" provided by the Israeli intelligence service and is renewed successively.
