RAMALLAH, Friday, June 2, 2023 (WAFA) - The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs warned today against the Israeli occupation practices, pursuant to instructions from the Israeli intelligence, in their pursuit and repeated abuse of freed Palestinian prisoner Mohammed Zahran.
The commission, in a statement issued today, explained that Zahran has stayed out of prison for a short time only ever since his release from Israeli jails two years ago after spending a 20-year sentence.
It added that Zahran’s home has been frequently subjected to raids and vandalism; he was re-detained following his release and spent around nine months in Israeli jails.
The commission said that Zahran has been continually pursued by an Israeli intelligence officer, who summoned Zahran for interrogations more than once. His last instructions were to raid the homes of Zahran and his brothers earlier this week, where they wreaked havoc and destroyed their contents before detaining Zahran in a brutal manner.
The commission noted that its lawyers followed up on the details of Zahran’s arrest, affirming its rejection of the policy of opacity pursued by Israel regarding his whereabouts and condition.
Despite this Israeli obfuscation, the commission managed to find out the whereabouts of Zahran in the Israeli Hadassah Hospital, where he was being treated in a very difficult condition as a result of the severe beatings he was subjected to during and after his arrest.
Zahran was released suddenly yesterday and transferred immediately to a hospital in Ramallah, where they were able to directly observe the traces of abuse on his entire body.
