RAMALLAH, Sunday, April 23, 2023 (WAFA) – Nassr and Sharif Abu Hmeid, two Palestinian bothers serving life sentences in Israeli prisons, entered today their 22nd year in Israeli prisons, according to the Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS).
The Abu Hmeid brothers, Nassr and Sharif, who come from Al-Amaari refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, were arrested on this day in 2002, and were sentenced to life in prison four and five times respectively for their activism in the resistance of the Israeli occupation.
Two brothers of the two prisoners, Mohammad and Islam, are also serving life sentences in Israeli prisons for their resistance of the occupation.
Like many Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, the Abu Hmeid brothers were denied family visitation several times by the Israeli occupation authorities as a punishment against him and his entire family.
Last year, the four siblings lost their fifth brother, Nasser Abu Hmeid, who died as a result of medical negligence in Israeli prisons.
The Israeli occupation authorities are still incarcerating more than 4,500 Palestinian and Arab prisoners for resisting its occupation of their homeland.
