After demolishing his home, West Jerusalem municipality returns to demolish what was left of a Palestinian’s home

JERUSALEM, Tuesday, February 28, 2023 (WAFA) – Staff from the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem today returned to occupied East Jerusalem’s Isawiyya neighborhood to demolish what was left of a Palestinian’s home that was self-demolished earlier this month, according to local sources.

They said Nizar Muheisen self-demolished most of his home in the middle of this month after the Israeli municipality ordered its demolition for construction without the rarely granted building permit and fined him around $30,000.

Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem self-demolish their homes to avoid paying exorbitant amounts to the municipality if its staff carries out the demolition.

However, one of the outer walls remained standing, which prompted the municipality to send its staff today to tear it down and force the homeowner to pay the heavy costs, said the sources.
