RAMALLAH, Wednesday, December 21, 2022 (WAFA) – The family of cancer-stricken Palestinian freedom fighter, Nasser Abu Hmaid, who died in Israeli custody early Tuesday morning, announced today during a press conference held in Ramallah that it will not accept condolences for the death of its son until his body is retrieved from the Israeli side and buried properly.

Earlier today, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz decided not to return the body of Abu Hmaid to his family citing a security cabinet decision that allows Israel to withhold the bodies of Palestinians who die while in custody and those who were killed after allegedly attacking Israelis as a bargaining chip in in future prisoners’ exchange with the Palestinians.

With the death of Abu Hmaid, the number of Palestinians who died in Israeli custody and their bodies are still withheld by Israel has reached 11.
