Palestinian detainees assaulted by Israeli prison guards while at court

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, November 16, 2022 (WAFA) – Israeli prison guards today assaulted Palestinian prisoners during their presence at a military court hearing, according to the Prisoners’ Affairs Commission.

It said that following a court hearing into the case of the prisoner Sami al-Hreimi, an 18-year-old resident of Bethlehem district, a group of guards ruthlessly beat Hreimi while he was handcuffed and with his feet shackled.

While being beaten, it added, other prisoners at the court attempted to intervene and defend Hreimi. However, the guards then attacked all the prisoners and sprayed them with pepper spray.

Hreimi, as a result, suffered from acute chest pain and bruises across his body, said the commission.

Hreimi was detained on September 20, 2021, and later sentenced to six months in prison for his political activities. After serving his sentence, he was slammed with administrative detention without charge for three months, and his administrative order was renewed twice.

His brother, Ahmad, 26, who was arrested by the Israeli forces on July 4 and placed in administrative detention without charge or trial for six months, recently went on an open-ended hunger strike.
