RAMALLAH, Tuesday, December 21, 2021 (WAFA) – Israeli prison authorities at the desert Nafha prison in the south of Israel severely punished Palestinian prisoners kept at one of the wards in retaliation for one of the prisoners assaulting a prison guard on Monday night, according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS).

It said the prisoners at Ward 12 were handcuffed and kept in the open yard for several hours in very cold weather conditions while some of them were beaten and others placed in solitary confinement.

Yousef Mabhouh, from the Gaza Strip, who assaulted the prison guard in retaliation for the mistreatment of female Palestinian political prisoners, was taken along with three other prisoners to the prison clinic, said the PPS. Their condition was not immediately known as the prisoners were kept in isolation.

The PPS urged the International Committee of the Red Cross to visit the prisoners and check on their condition in light of the Israeli blackout.

Meanwhile, the PPS said the three women prisoners who were earlier put in solitary confinement promoting widespread protest among the prisoners, were taken back to their original Damoon prison as demanded by the prisoners’ representatives but nevertheless were also kept in isolation.

It said the prisoners are planning more protest activities until the three women prisoners are allowed back in their cells with the rest of their inmates.
