Israeli forces detain 37 Palestinians in West Bank raids

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, May 19, 2021 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Wednesday overnight detained at least 37 Palestinians from various parts of the West Bank, according to the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS)

PPS confirmed in a press statement that Israeli forces rounded up eight Palestinians, including six brothers, after ransacking their houses and seized a vehicle in Bani Na‘im town, northeast of the southern West Bank city of Hebron.

They also rounded up two others after storming their houses in Adh-Dhahiriya town, south of Hebron.

In Bethlehem district, Israeli forces barged their way into Al-Ubeidiya town, east of the city, where they detained two Palestinians.

They also forced their way into Tuqu‘ town, southeast of the city, and detained two teens, both aged 16.

In Jerusalem district, Israeli police rounded up four Palestinians from Shufat, besides to four teens from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

This came as Israeli forces forced their way into al-Ram town, northeast of the city, where they rounded up two others.

In Ramallah and al-Bireh district, the sources confirmed an Israeli military raid in Birzeit town, north of Ramallah city, resulting in the detention of a resident.

Israeli troops also conducted two separate raids in Bil‘in village and Beitillu town, west and northwest of the city, resulting in the detention of two others.

In the northern West Bank, Israeli soldiers detained three Palestinians in multiple raids from Nablus district.

One of the three detainees was identified as a resident of Beita town, southeast of the city, another as a resident of Madama village, south of the city, and the other as a resident of Tell town, southwest of the city.

In Jenin district, Israeli military vehicles stormed Qabatiya town, south of the city, where soldiers detained one.

The soldiers also detained two others in separate two raids in Silat al-Harithiya village and al-Yamun town, northwest and west of the city.

PPS added that Israeli soldiers arrested another from Tulkarm and three others from Qalqiliya.

Meanwhile, the soldiers detained another after storming and searching his family house in Tubas city.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.

Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.
