RAMALLAH, Tuesday, January 12, 2021 (WAFA) – The go-ahead decision by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with the construction of 800 new housing units in the illegal settlements in the occupied territories was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Quds said in its main front-page story headline that Netanyahu gave the green light for the construction of the new 800 units, while al-Ayyam said in its main story that the decision was made before US President-elect Joe Biden assumes office on January 20.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, condemning the construction decision, and said that Netanyahu was in a race against time with this decision.
The main front-page story in al-Hayat al-Jadida focused on the death of a former 20-year-old Palestinian prisoner from Hizma village, near Jerusalem, who was ill with cancer, which he developed while incarcerated in Israel.
It also said that President Abbas issued a decision by law amending the elections law and three other decisions by law regarding the justice system.
Al-Ayyam quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh saying that his government is going to legally pursue any Arab company that imports Israeli settlement products.
Al-Quds quoted Shtayyeh saying also that the year 2021 will be the year for the Palestinian national narrative in facing Israeli forgeries and distortions.
The paper said the Israeli army shot and injured eight workers, seized equipment and detained many.
Al-Ayyam said one Palestinian was injured in an attack by Israeli settlers.
It said the foreign ministers of Jordan, Egypt, France and Germany said in their meeting in Cairo that the two-state solution on the June 4, 1967 lines is a must to achieve a comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
It quoted Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi saying that resolving the Palestinian issue will change the course of events in the region for the better.
Coronavirus and its impact at home, the region and the world continued to occupied space on the front page of the Palestinian Arabic dailies.
The developments in the United States with steps to impeach outgoing President Donald Trump were also highlighted on the front page of the dailies.
