RAMALLAH, August 11, 2012 (WAFA) – Birzeit University (BZU) Saturday announced an end to the student strike and resumption of second summer term after reaching an agreement with the student council.
A statement by BZU said that after extensive talks between its board and the students, the parties agreed to start a dialogue in order to reach results that would be fair to students who cannot afford high tuition fees to allow them to continue their education.
The dialogue is also supposed to help the university continue with its higher education mission in light of the serious financial crisis it is facing.
BZU’s board said it will take into consideration the economic conditions of the new students and offer financial support through loans and scholarships starting from next semester.
