RAMALLAH, May 29, 2012 (WAFA) – The Central Elections Commission (CEC) Tuesday said in a statement that the voter registry update process in Gaza, which has not been updated since 2007, will commence on Saturday and will last for six weeks.
CEC will commence logistical and technical preparations such as voter education campaigns and training and recruitment of registration staff who will carry out field campaigns to register voters during the fifth and six weeks where citizens will be encouraged to register or update their personal information at registration centers which will be opened for this purpose, it said.
A CEC delegation headed by Hanna Nasir visited Gaza on Monday as part of its preparations to update the voter registry in Gaza and met with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh to discuss the purpose of registry update and the technical requirements.
The delegation also held several meetings with representatives of political factions, civil society organizations and the consortium of independent Palestinians to update them with latest developments on this regard.
