RAMALLAH, May 14, 2012 (WAFA) - The overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Palestinian Territory reached 135.82 in April of 2012, registering a decrease by 0.24% compared to the previous month, Monday said a statement released by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS).
CPI for April 2012 increased by 2.91% compared to April 2011, added the statement.
The change in CPI for April 2012 can be traced back to changes in prices of major expenditure groups compared to March of 2012, such as the decrease in prices of food and soft drinks by 0.79%, furniture and household goods by 0.32%, in addition to restaurants, cafes and hotels by 0.20%.
Prices of transportation and housing increased, however, by 0.43% each.
CPI showed changes at the different geographical levels in comparison to the previous month as CPI decreased by 0.26% in East Jerusalem and by 0.03% in the Gaza Strip, while it increased by 0.12% in the West Bank, said PCBS.
