Islamic Cooperation Condemns Israeli Arrest of Officials

CAIRO, January 24, 2012 (WAFA) - The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, strongly condemned the Israeli arrest of the two Hamas officials from the Red Cross office in East Jerusalem, said an OIC press release on Tuesday.

Israeli force arrested on Monday lawmaker Mohammad Totah and former minister of Jerusalem affairs in the Hamas government, Khaled Abu Arafeh, who took refuge at the Red Cross office more than 18 months ago to avoid Israeli arrest and expulsion from Jerusalem.

The statement said that Ihsanoglu considered the kidnapping of the two officials a violation of their immunity, as well as an assault committed against the Red Cross.

Ihsanoglu demanded the international community, particularly the Quartet, to take a stern opposition against the Israeli blatant violations, and pressure Israel to release the imprisoned Palestinian lawmakers.
