PCBS: Wholesale Price1 Index Increases in 2011

RAMALLAH, January 22, 2012 (WAFA) - The overall Wholesale Price1 Index (WPI) for the Palestinian Territory reached 118.33 in 2011, registering an increase by 3.76% compared to 2010, Sunday said a report by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS).

It said WPI prices for 2011 increased due to increase by 4.96% in agriculture group, and by 3.30% in manufacturing group.

The price of imported products increased by 4.70%, whereas the price of local products increased by 3.08%, added PCBS.

WPI for the fourth quarter of 2011 in the Palestinian Territory increased by 0.16% compared to the third quarter and reached 119.33.

PCBS report said that WPI for imported products reached 119.19, indicating an increase by 0.56% in the fourth quarter compared to the third, whereas WPI for the local products increased by .28% and reached 121.44, in the same period.

The changes of WPI for the fourth quarter can be traced back to changes in the prices of several major activities compared to the previous quarter, including a decrease by 0.20% in agriculture goods and a decrease by 3.80% in mining and quarrying.

PCBS also monitored an increase by 0.81% in the prices of fishing, and an increase by 0.37% in manufacturing group.
