Abbas: Netanyahu’s 21-Points Proposal is “Void”

MOSCOW, January 22, 2012 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas  said the 21-points proposal submitted by the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during the exploratory meetings under the Quartet supervision in Jordan is “void and worthless.”

Abbas, in an interview with Russia Today news channel broadcasted on Sunday, said the Israeli prime minister should not present main outlines and “talismans.”

He said his Europe tour to Britain, Germany and Russia aims to consider alternatives if the exploratory meetings between Palestinian and Israelis under the Quartet supervision fail.

“It is our right to launch a diplomatic campaign. However, my campaign does not aim to isolate or delegitimize Israel…I do want to coexist with Israel, but I want to isolate Israel’s policy and settlements,” added Abbas.

Commenting on the United Nations Security Council public session on January 24 to discuss Israeli settlements and policy in occupied East Jerusalem, Abbas said he hoped US will not veto any potential decision.

“US is the world’s superpower and should not side with Israel,” he added.

Abbas denounced the Israeli arrest of Aziz Dweik, Palestinian Legislative Council member, and said his arrest was “unjust” and “legally ungrounded.”
