National Council Condemns Arrest of lawmaker

RAMALLAH, January 21, 2012 (WAFA) – The Palestinian National Council (PNC), the parliament-in-exile, Saturday condemned Israeli arrest of Aziz Dweik, president of the Palestinian Legislative Council, according to a statement released by PNC chairman Salim Zanoun.

He said arrest of Dweik, an elected member of parliament, is a “blatant aggression.” He called for his immediate release.

The Israeli measure aims to hinder the Palestinian internal reconciliation, added Zanoun.

He called on world parliaments and human rights groups to intervene and stop Israeli assault against elected Palestinian officials.
